What to do in the Callantsoog area?
Callantsoog is one of the oldest seaside resorts and the most famous coastal village in our region. Walk across the village's high dunes and the wide, clean and white sandy beach stretches before you like an endless plain.
West Frisian Folklore Market
A day of lesser weather? Head to Schagen for an afternoon and visit the West Frisian Folklore Market. It takes place every Thursday for 10 weeks in summer. The colourful procession of Schagen people and guests dressed in original West Frisian costumes, walk or sit on one of the many wagons in a parade through town. A sight to behold. The series kicks off on Thursday 4 July 2024. On Thursday, September 5, the season will conclude in a fitting manner. For more information, times and route, visit www.westfriesefolklore.nl
Cycling through the dunes
From Callantsoog, the cycling routes are endless. For example, head towards Den Helder, a beautiful route through the dunes and along the dyke. Cross the dunes and you will find yourself in an oasis of tranquillity. Turn off halfway at beach restaurant Paal6 for a delicious lunch or coffee and cake.
In the other direction, the route towards Schoorl is also beautiful. This route along the bulb fields is definitely worth cycling in spring. And don't forget to pass by the flower stalls, these come straight from the land: you can't get any fresher!
Het Zwanenwater nature reserve
Adjacent to the Duynpark is the beautiful nature reserve. The two dune lakes of the Zwanenwater are the two largest natural dune lakes in Western Europe: the First Water and, a little further south, the Second Water with the Bokkeneiland.
Walk for example through the Uitlandse Polder, a 3.3 km route through the backyard of our Duynpark. This route can also be accessed from the Duynpark and dogs are welcome there.
Eating ice cream
In Callantsoog, the third generation of the Baars-Tichelaar family has been passionately making artisanal ice cream according to family recipes from fresh, high-quality ingredients since 1963. This has won them many awards and made them a household name in the region.
Ijsie Prima can rightly call itself one of the best ice cream makers in the world. With a 73rd place in the world rankings, winning the title of 'Dutch champion' at the Gelato Festival Bologna and being named 'Ice cream parlour of the year' for three years now.
